Google Docs is Google’s “software as a service” edition of an office group. Documents, spreadsheets, forms and presentations can be formed inside the application itself, imported throughout the web interface, or sent using email. They can as well be saved to the user’s computer in a range of formats (OpenOffice, HTML, PDF, RTF, Text, and Word). With default, they are saved to the Google servers. Open documents are mechanically saved to avoid data thrashing, and a revision history is repeatedly kept. Documents be able to be tagged and archived for managerial purposes. The service is formally supported on new versions of Safari, Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome browsers running on Microsoft Windows, Apple OS X, and Linux operating systems.

There is a limit on how greatly a user can lay up on their account. Documents might not go beyond 500k, fixed images must not go over 2MB each, and spreadsheets are restricted to 256 columns, 99 sheets, and 200,000 cells. A user can have a sum of 5,000 documents and presentations, 1,000 spreadsheets,  5,000 images, and 100 PDFs once. During September 2009, an equation editor was added which allows rendering in LaTeX format.

Google Docs serves as a joint tool for editing between users and non-users in real time. Documents can be shared, opened, and edited by many users all at once. In the case of spreadsheets, users can be notified of changes to any particular regions through e-mail. The application chains the ISO normal OpenDocument format. Moreover it also includes support for proprietary formats for instance .doc and .xls. Recently, they also added support for .docx plus .xlsx. It is also likely to upload and share PDF files.

Google Docs is in the middle of many cloud computing document-sharing services. The greater part of document-sharing services entails user fees, while Google Docs is free of charge to Gmail users and non-users. Its fame between businesses is rising due to improved sharing features and accessibility.

Google Docs be able to be used (viewing and editing) in offline mode via using Google Gears.
